Cherokee County has three main court-record channels. Circuit and District Court case information starts with Alacourt ACCESS / Just One Look or the Cherokee County Circuit Clerk. Probate records, marriage indexes, estate claims, deeds, mortgages, UCC records, and recording images use the Probate Office and the separate probate portal. Appeals use Alabama appellate search tools, and federal cases use federal systems such as PACER.

The local Circuit Clerk page says most Alabama trial-court information may be obtained through Just One Look, with required fees. That portal is useful when a user needs a docket or status check for civil, domestic, criminal, traffic, or related trial-court cases. The clerk request form is the fallback when the search needs certification, paper records, older files, archived or microfilm records, or a search performed by the office.

1. Confirm whether the matter belongs to Cherokee County Circuit Court, District Court, Probate Court, a municipal court, or a federal court.
2. For Circuit or District Court case status, start with Alacourt ACCESS and select the Cherokee County location where available.
3. Use the party name, case number, division, filing year, and identifying information to narrow the court record search.
4. For certified copies, older files, or clerk-assisted searches, complete the Circuit Clerk request form and include the required deposit.

The public-facing Alacourt path shows the statewide system, but full case details are login, fee, or account based. The Cherokee docket path uses a county location value and points to official trial-court data. Because full search-field rules are gated, users should prepare the common identifiers that Alabama trial-court portals and clerk searches rely on.

Request Cherokee County Court Copies

The Circuit Clerk request form is the local copy and search channel for Cherokee County Circuit and District Court records. The form states that the office has only Cherokee County Circuit and District Court records. It cannot supply federal, state, municipal, other county, or out-of-state records. That limit is important because a sheriff incident report, a probate recording, a municipal misdemeanor, or a federal docket must be requested from a different source.

The request must include enough detail for a meaningful search. The form asks for the date, specific information requested, names, date of birth or identifying information, case number if known, approximate filing year, whether certified documents are needed, and the requester's contact information. It also warns that the search fee applies even if no record is found.

That statewide public-record process is useful background, but Cherokee County court-file requests should still go to the court office that holds the case.

Types of Cherokee County Court Records

Cherokee County court records are split by court and division. Circuit Civil records include higher-value civil cases. District Civil handles lower-value civil cases, evictions, and unlawful detainers. Small Claims is a District Court division for simpler disputes up to $6,000. Domestic Relations is the Circuit Court division where divorces are primarily filed. What Cherokee County Court Records Show

A case record usually combines identifiers, docket history, filings, and results. The exact fields depend on the division. A District Civil file may focus on statement of claim, service, answer, trial setting, default request, and judgment. A criminal file may show arresting agency, charge text, bond, plea, disposition, sentence, and probation. A traffic file may show citation number, court date, guilty plea, no-insurance proof, failure to appear, or license-suspension warning.

Public Access to Cherokee County Court Records

Alabama's public-records law supports inspection and copying of public writings unless a statute or court order restricts access. Code of Alabama Section 36-12-40 is the core open-records provision, and Section 36-12-41 addresses copies and lawful fees. Sections 36-12-43 through 36-12-46 add request-process and timing provisions. Restricted Cherokee County Court Records

Some Cherokee County court records should not be described as generally public. Juvenile court records and information concerning children are confidential under Code of Alabama Section 12-15-133. The local juvenile page routes questions to the Cherokee County Juvenile Probation Office, but it does not publish a public juvenile case database. Adoption, mental-health, sealed, expunged, and certain minor-related materials may also require party status, attorney authority, agency authority, court order, or another legal basis for access.

Expungement is handled through Alabama courts under Code of Alabama Section 15-27. ALEA's expungement page states that courts grant expungements, not ALEA. A Cherokee County petition normally starts in the criminal division of Circuit Court in the county where the charge was filed.
